Liverpool 'agree £142m deal with Barcelona for Coutinho'

The transfer window seems to get crazier every year, with last summer's world record £198m transfer of Neymar from Barcelona to PSG obliterating the previous record.

Philippe Coutinho has headed to Catalonia to complete the formalities of his £142million transfer from Liverpool, but it remained business as usual for Ernesto Valverde's men on Sunday afternoon as Messi opened the scoring after 12 minutes, drilling an angled effort in off the post.

Italian, French and Spanish sides also feature in the top 10.

"It is true that I have seen videos of him playing in different positions, for Liverpool and for his country".

Philippe Coutinho has been presented as a Barcelona player for the first time.

His signing signals Barcelona's intention to refocus on the patch of the pitch that has defined its passing style for decades, an emphasis that had slipped somewhat in recent years with Neymar, Messi and Luis Suarez forming a powerful attack, albeit sometimes at the expense of its ability to dominate possession.

The 25-year-old Coutinho comes to Spain charged with the daunting task of one day taking over as its midfield leader with Andres Iniesta entering the twilight of his career at age 33.

Liverpool understand their reservations and ultimately are prepared to wait until July 1 when the Guinea international midfielder is officially due to join. "We hope to see him playing for us as soon as possible". But let's wait and see.

However, they softened their stance and the move was always on the cards after Liverpool spent a world-record fee for a defender when they signed Virgil van Dijk from Southampton for £75m.

And he has told the 26-year-old to ignore all the talk surrounding his future and to remain committed to helping the Foxes until the summer. He scored 41 times in 152 Premier League appearances for Liverpool, including seven in 14 matches in the first half of this campaign.

"We are trying to develop good play on the floor and he likes this". I am certain he will really help Barca to attain our objectives this season.
