Dortmund add Philipp, Castro to 'growing injury list'

Bayern, beaten by Borussia Moenchengladbach last week for their first loss under coach Jupp Heynckes, moved on to 32 points, with RB Leipzig stuck on 26 after crashing to a 4-0 loss at Hoffenheim.

Borussia Dortmund added Maximilian Philipp and Gonzalo Castro to their growing injury list on Saturday after the pair had to be taken off in their 1-1 draw at Bayer Leverkusen and look set for a lengthy injury break.

Chilean Arturo Vidal headed Bayern in front in the 17th minute and the hosts thought they had scored again through Robert Lewandowski but his effort was ruled offside after a video replay.

Kevin Volland opened the scoring on 30 minutes with a left foot drive following a swift counter attack form the home side for his ninth goal of the season.

Augsburg are on the rise, too.

The initial decision was yellow, but it was dramtaically changed when the ref went to the VAR who upgraded the card to red.

Gerrit Holtmann sparked some drama at the death with a reply for lowly Mainz, but World Cup-bound Finnbogason killed off the game with his second from a Caiuby pass.

The contrast in confidence was clear to see right from the off at the BayArena: Leverkusen, unbeaten in eight coming into this game, oozed self-belief and immediately sought to pressure a Dortmund side without a Bundesliga win since Matchday 7.

Elsewhere, Max Kruse's goal on the stroke of half-time secured a 1-0 victory over Stuttgart for Werder Bremen, who are now point away from Freiburg and escaping the bottom two.
