Alan Pardew Set To Be Confirmed As New West Brom Manager

It is no coincidence that in his statement announcing Pardew's appointment, chairman John Williams made reference to the hope that the new man can get the team playing the sort of "dynamic football" that West Brom supporters crave.

West Brom go into the contest just one point above the Premier League relegation zone and in desperate need of a win, having not picked up a victory since the second match of the campaign.

Pardew, who has been out of the game since he was sacked by Palace last December, said: "My best teams play on the front foot and try and put teams under pressure".

"It is a club that has a really good set of players and I think it is a good opportunity for a manager, and if it is me then it is me".

David Luiz's condition is still unclear but it is very unlikely that he will be back to face Newcastle on Saturday.

But that was it: the following 86 minutes brought only six more West Brom touches in the Spurs box, leaving caretaker boss Gary Megson's claim that he wasn't a "ginger Tony Pulis" sounding a bit hollow.

Rafa Benitez's side went into Tuesday night's game against West Bromwich Albion on the back of four successive defeats.

If Newcastle lose, it will be their 70th Premier League defeat in London - the joint-most of any away side in the competition (level with Everton).

This philosophy won the Championship last term, and gained early points this season in the Premier League. "That will do him the world of good".

Megson, who managed West Brom between 2000 and 2004, refused to comment over Pardew's seemingly imminent arrival when questioned ahead of the visit of Newcastle.

He's got a bad reputation for some of the runs he has had at some clubs he has been at.

"We can't take our eye off that. Until the end of the season, we have to do what we have to do". "Yes, 100 per cent. But we need to be sure we understand our reality, which is that we are a team that have to stick together, like we did in a lot of games". Goals seem to come from free-kick situations and headers in the penalty area, and nowhere else at times. Tiemoue Bakayoko could also be recalled despite his poor display away at Anfield.
