The university said in a statement that Person had been suspended without pay effective immediately.

That exact firm was hired by Auburn at the end of August when allegations of abuse and sexual harassment under coach Clint Myers and then-associate head coach Corey Myers.

The company issued a statement Tuesday after federal prosecutors announced that its director of global sports marketing is charged along with four college assistant coaches. "We are saddened, angry and disappointed".

The scheme, according to prosecutors, involved top coaches funneling student-athletes to agents and financial advisers in return for cash bribes, according to the prosecutors.

The acting U.S. attorney in Manhattan says the picture of college basketball painted by criminal charges his office brought against four college assistant coaches and an Adidas executive is not a pretty one. Person and Rashan Michel, a former NBA and NCAA official and current custom clothing distributor, who is also named as a defendant in the charges, agreed to accept approximately $50,000 in bribe payments from an undercover federal agent.

Auburn has not made the NCAA Tournament since the 2002-03 season when it lost in the regional semifinal.

Person, arrested Tuesday, has since been released from federal custody and has a hearing scheduled for Oct. 10.

According to the complaint, Person was to use his "influence" to convince players with a shot at making the NBA to use the unnamed financial adviser.

The coaches work at Oklahoma State, Auburn University, Arizona and the University of Southern California.

Jim Gatto of Addidas has also been arrested. Louisville coach Rick Pitino was the first to go, and he probably won't be the last.
