Chelsea trades striker to Atletico Madrid — Diego Costa

According to the football transfer rumours in Spanish Media (Football Espana), Atletico Madrid have confirmed an agreement with Chelsea for the transfer of striker Diego Costa.

Now, after refusing to play or train with Chelsea, a deal has been agreed, and the destination is one he'll be happy about.

"If you did well in the past it is OK, but I think we have to work for the present and above all for the future to try to build something important for this club".

The deal is believed to be worth around £53m.

It wasn't all smooth sailing for Costa, however, with the striker struggling in front of the goal for the first part of the controversial 2015/16 season in which the then-reigning champions sacked manager José Mourinho, sitting in 16th-place at Christmas.

Chelsea outcast Diego Costa is returning to his old club, Atletico Madrid.

Diego Costa has secured a return to Atletico Madrid.

Finally one of the biggest, longest transfer saga from the summer is set to end. He scored 59 goals for the Blues, 52 of them in Premier League play.

With Atletico under a transfer embargo and unable to register new players until January, Costa will have to wait to wear the red and white stripes once again.

Costa was granted an additional summer break, missing the pre-season tour to Asia, but then extended his exile as relations with Chelsea deteriorated further and lawyers became involved.

As such, Conte is hoping to field the defender in the European Cup next Wednesday, saying: "He [Luiz] must be okay. He gave everything for our club every time he wore a Chelsea shirt and was a born winner".

Ultimately, only one solution was going to please both sides.

When asked about reported problems between himself and Costa, Conte added: "I don't want to continue talking about this issue".
