Valverde praises Messi after Barcelona win

Messi took his tally to seven goals in his last three club games with a brace as Barca opened their Champions League campaign with an impressive win over last season's beaten finalists Juventus.

The Juventus star was questioned on the subject today, ahead of his meeting with Messi in the Champions League this evening, and while he was keen to assure that it is a pleasure to play alongside his fellow Argentine, he also admitted that it has a definite effect on his style of play.

"He's a player that has a lot of quality. what we can see from outside is that he still wants to improve, he's a player who can make the difference", Ter Stegen told a news conference on Monday. That run includes 19 victories and two draws - one of which was against Juventus in the quarterfinals last season.

"Nobody saw the gap and he found it, but I emphasise the involvement of Messi from all points of view". He then scored Barca's third goal of the night after collecting the ball outside of the Juventus area, dribbling past two defenders and then fooling Buffon with a shot into the bottom corner of the net to assure the win. Juventus had a decent 40 minutes in the first half and kept Barcelona at bay.

Lionel Messi was at his very best in Barcelona's 3-0 victory over Juventus.

Asked if new club record signing Dembélé would start against Juventus, having made his debut coming on against Espanyol, Valverde said: "We'll see. He and Neymar are the future once (Lionel) Messi and (Cristiano) Ronaldo hang up their boots", Allegri was quoted as saying by Juventus' website on Saturday.

Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde agreed that Dybala posed a threat but was also concerned with Juve's power as a team.

"Dembele was fine. It's true that he has to adapt to the team, to learn some tactical questions", Valverde said.

Real Madrid is the team struggling early in the Spanish league.

Dybala already has five goals through three matches in Serie A.

However, the dangerous Paulo Dybala, who scored twice as the Italian champions dumped Barca out at the quarter-final stage last season, is fit to partner Gonzalo Higuain in attack.
